Frequently asked questions
Does this replace a professional photographer?
No, and it is not meant to. The photographer shoots the portraits, the ceremony and everything that was planned. Fotkaj catches what they physically cannot see - ten tables at once, all night, from where the guests are standing.
How do we get the QR code, and where should it go?
The code is waiting in your dashboard the moment you open a gallery, so it goes off to be printed with the rest of the table stationery. One code per table works best - that is the only place guests sit long enough to think about scanning anything. It is worth adding one by the door and one on the bar, and you can put it on the invitations too: it works from the moment the gallery exists.
How many photos do guests usually send?
More than you expect, and in waves - most of them land between the ceremony and midnight. The guest count predicts it better than the length of the night: a hundred people usually means several hundred photos. That is why the price follows the size of the event - a gallery for a hundred and twenty is sized for a few thousand photos, comfortably more than a wedding that size sends.
When should we open the gallery?
Whenever suits you before the wedding - you pay once and it waits. A few weeks ahead makes sense so the QR code can go to print with everything else. The gallery itself only unlocks at midnight on the day, so opening early costs you nothing.
What if someone sends a photo we would rather not keep?
You delete it from the dashboard in two clicks. It is gone from the gallery and from the ZIP archive at once.
Can we ask guests to sign their photos?
It is up to them. Anyone who types a name has their photos attributed, so you know who to ask for an original later. Anyone who skips it uploads as “Guest”.
What if the venue has bad internet?
Photos upload from the browser and queue up if the connection drops, so nothing is lost. Whatever does not go through on the night resumes on its own the next time that guest opens the gallery - usually in the morning, on the first decent network.
Do you accept video?
Not yet, photos only. We would rather say so upfront than have a guest send you the first dance and watch it go nowhere. If video is the part of the night that matters most to you, this is not the right service for it.
Do guests need to install an app?
No. Scanning the QR code opens a normal web page in their phone's browser. Nothing is installed and nobody signs up.
What if a guest doesn't want to give their name?
They can continue without one. Their photos are simply credited to "Guest".
When can I download the photos?
Right away, at any time. The dashboard has a button that downloads every photo in a single ZIP archive.
How long does the gallery stay open?
Guests can upload for 1 day after the event ends. After that the gallery stays viewable and downloadable for another 30 days.
Can I remove a photo I don't want?
Yes. You can delete any photo from the gallery in the dashboard.
Is the gallery public?
No. The link never appears in search engines and only people who scan your QR code can reach it.
What kind of events is Fotkaj for?
Any event where people take photos: weddings, birthdays, christenings, graduations, company parties, team buildings, conferences, concerts and festivals. The gallery works the same whatever the occasion - only what you type into it changes.
