Frequently asked questions

Do guests need to install an app?

No. Scanning the QR code opens a normal web page in their phone's browser. Nothing is installed and nobody signs up.

What if a guest doesn't want to give their name?

They can continue without one. Their photos are simply credited to "Guest".

When can I download the photos?

Right away, at any time. The dashboard has a button that downloads every photo in a single ZIP archive.

How long does the gallery stay open?

Guests can upload for 1 day after the event ends. After that the gallery stays viewable and downloadable for another 30 days.

Can I remove a photo I don't want?

Yes. You can delete any photo from the gallery in the dashboard.

Is the gallery public?

No. The link never appears in search engines and only people who scan your QR code can reach it.

What kind of events is Fotkaj for?

Any event where people take photos: weddings, birthdays, christenings, graduations, company parties, team buildings, conferences, concerts and festivals. The gallery works the same whatever the occasion - only what you type into it changes.

What if the gallery runs out of space?

Guests stop being able to upload, and your dashboard says so - nothing already in the gallery is touched, and nobody is charged anything unexpected. Every tier carries well over what an event its size normally produces, so it is unlikely; if it happens, deleting a few photos from the dashboard frees the space again straight away.

What if more people turn up than I picked?

Nothing happens. We never count guests at the door - the number you pick only sizes the gallery, so two hundred people at a gallery bought for a hundred and fifty simply carry on uploading. The only thing that ever stops an upload is the space running out.

What size are the photos guests send?

Large, but not the untouched file from the phone. Every photo is compressed in the browser before it is sent, so the upload finishes while the guest is still standing there rather than failing halfway. That is plenty for prints and for anything you post, and it is far gentler than what a messaging app leaves you with. If you ever need the untouched original, the photo says who took it, so you know who to ask.
